Dear healthcare students,
We are pleased to welcome you to the 9th Annual IPE Forum for Health Profession Students organized by the IPE student Association which will take place on Saturday 17/02/2024.
This year's marks introducing the 1st IPE Disaster Management and Preparedness Activity, in addition to having the famous Healthcare Team Challenge and Health Talk Oral Presentations.
1) Healthcare Team Challenge:
What is a Healthcare Team Challenge?
Healthcare team challenge is an extracurricular activity open to all healthcare students (undergraduate and postgraduate) where students will be randomly assigned to an interprofessional team and will work hand in hand with other healthcare students to provide the optimal management plan for the patient. The challenge aims to promote teamwork and collaboration that will help the participants in working together. Each of you are expected to work, learn and share their knowledge, experience and skills in solving the case and achieve patient’s outcome. There is a minimum of three week preparation, where teams will be asked to develop their plan. Teams will present their management plan on the day of the forum to the audience and panel of judges in 5 minutes. The team will then be given a challenge to test them under pressure and they will have to formulate a response within 3 minutes and present it within two minutes.

- To improve your interprofessional communication skills.

- To receive a certificate of participation and maybe win with your team the competition (great addition to your CV).
- To work in a collaborative environment and build relationships between each other to improve professional lives after graduation.
1.Case Introduction and Preparation
- Each team will be given the same case
- Familiarize yourself with the case and discuss it with your team members [Don’t share with other teams, remember it’s a challenge!!!!]
- Take EVERYONE’S opinion [Remember it’s IPE!!!],
- Always think of the patient’s needs.
- Mentors will help guide the case, keep them involved in the discussion
- Each team should plan their own meetings and decide on decide on a line of communication.
- Be creative in your approach, it’s the key to success.
- A faculty mentor will be assigned to each interprofessional team.
- The mentor will provide guidance, motivation and support to the team.
- Each team will have one mentor from one of the healthcare professions.
- Mentors will not provide answers to the case but their role is to guide your team
A) Patient Centered Care
- Was the patient/client/family involved in the decision-making process and was this reflected in the plan?
- Were the patient/clients/family needs and wishes incorporated appropriately into the care planning process?
- Were discipline contributions related to the client needs? This may include professions that could provide input that were not in their existing team.
- Developing ways of working interprofessional?
- Developing ways to provide better patient/client care?
- Developing ways to improve the health care system?
- How well did the team ‘think outside the box’?3. Collaboration
- Did the team collaborate as appropriate, to assess, plan, provide care/intervention and make decisions to optimize client/ patient/family health outcomes and improve quality of care?
- Were the students respectful and professional, in answering questions?
- Did the team exemplify a willingness to collaborate?
- How feasible is the team’s plan of management?
- Could the responses be implemented?
- Did the team learn about the roles of other health professions?
- Did the presenting team indicate a good understanding of other roles in prioritization of professional input for best practice?
- Did the team communicate effectively with others and share decision making?
- Did the team consider, respect and respond to the person’s cultural needs?

The following information and guidelines should be followed while designing the poster:
- Posters will be displayed on a free standing vertical board. The poster dimensions should be a maximum of 841mm wide x 1189mm/ 33.1 x 46.8 in high (A0 and PORTRAIT). Limited tape will be provided
- For poster presenters, you are required to be present during attended periods to give a brief talk (5 minutes) about your poster via a poster walk
- Please ensure to remove your poster at the end of the day
- Posters should be self-explanatory as presenters need only be available at specific times to answer questions
- Aim to put across a simple message in an eye-catching manner
- Data should be kept to a minimum in favor of diagrams and photographs.
- All text lettering should be large enough to be legible at a distance of 1.5m- 2m
- Lettering used for titles should be 24-point size minimum
- Photographs and diagrams should be large enough to be read at a distance of 1.5m- 2m
- Give a title for your abstract that is descriptive of the content
- Make sure your abstract falls within the accepted range of 250 – 300 words
- Well-written and free of grammatical mistakes (be aware of grammar, spelling, etc..)

Kindly note the following information and follow these guidelines for your oral presentation:
- Time allocated for the oral presentation is 10 minutes followed by 5 minutes questions and answers
- Use PowerPoint to present
- There should be no more than 6 x 1-line bullet points per slide
- Optimum title text is 45 - 55 points and no smaller than 36 points
- Body text should be at least 26 points
- Avoid UPPERCASE letters as they are hard to read
- Please keep to the time limit of your presentation
